Het rechtse betrouwbaarheidsinterval moet men hier niet gebruiken, omdat het steekproefgemiddelde groter is dan 20. ('Bij groter dan Ho' wordt het linkse betrouwbaarheidsinterval gebruikt.)

De student heeft hier de correcte redeneringswijze gebruikt (de juiste soorten intervallen gebruikt) echter bij het vormen van een conclusie heeft hij/zij foutief geredeneerd. De waarde 20 ligt immers niet in het left sided confidence interval waardoor de nulhypothese hier wel verworpen wordt terwijl de waarde 20 wel in het right sided confidence interval ligt en de nulhypothese hier bijgevolg niet verworpen wordt. Waarschijnlijk heeft de student zich louter vergist van soort confidence interval.

Volgens de opgave moest wel degelijk het 2-sided confidence interval gebruikt worden. De student heeft dit bijgevolg correct toegepast en is tot de juiste conclusie gekomen. Het al dan niet nemen van het right - of left sided confidence interval is bij deze vraag irrelevant.
